“Love or Confusion [Anthology Version 2010]”
“♫ Oh, my head is
pounding, pounding/ goin’
round and round and
round, round/ Must there
always be these
names, without sounds? […] ♫”
There is no confusion—I love this rarely acknowledged Hendrix cut originally recorded for Are You Experienced. Love or Confusion was originally going to be released as the second official single by The Experience but it was replaced, when Jimi went off and wrote a superior “Purple Haze.”
The Rough Guide to Jimi Hendrix author, Richie Unterberger- named “Love or Confusion” one of the thirty great Hendrix songs of all time. “Love” actually sneaked in the top ten at #10.
Look for the Anthology version, I prefer it, from West Coast Seattle Boy box set. Engineer Eddie Kramer remixed the original multi-tracks to create this new blistering version of “Love or Confusion.” Forty-Three years after it’s initial recording, “Love or Confusion” finally was released as a single in 2010.
If you’re stuck in car, just like I was last night and want escape your traffic blues, give “Love or Confusion” a spin. Hey if you’re trapped in gridlock why not let Jimi shred the time away with some of his transcendent riffs. Saturday night and Hendrix—sounds like love to me.
