Don’t Get Me Wrong
“♫ Don’t get me wrong/ if I’m looking kind of dazzled/ I see neon lights/ whenever you walk by […] ♫”
Did you know that Chrissie Hynde came up with the melody of “Don’t Get Me Wrong” while on a British Airways flight? The same distinct airline four bar tone that goes off periodically while in the air, for pilot announcements—i.e. fastening seat belt, are the same notes in the chorus. You can hear the guitar and then keyboard mimic those same four bar tones while Hynde sings—“♫ Don’t Get Me Wrong. ♫”
So while most of us are in our seats, waiting for our airplane to land – Chrissie Hynde used her time, on her flight over the Atlantic, to pen a top ten single that eventually hit the charts on both sides of the pond.
For those of you Patrick Macnee fans—the video for “Don’t Get Me Wrong” is a tribute to one of Chrissie’s favorite TV programs; Hynde’s singing persona is superimposed throughout this homage to the 1960’s hit show The Avengers.
