April Fool
Patti Smith

I spent my Sunday writing poetry and watching Patti Smith on CBS Sunday Morning. Patti just released her new single, yesterday, appropriately titled—“April Fool!” A cut from her up and coming Banga CD due in June, the album title has references to The Master and Margarita. Professor Smith wants you to read the book to discover the significance of this Mikhail Bulgakov inspired title.

April Fool is a tribute to Russian dramatist and author Nikolai Gogol. As Patti Smith told a Sunday Morning yesterday, April Fool has references— “dead souls, tattered coats, rusty bikes and Tom Verlaine playing great guitar.”

April Fool reminds me of a 3 minute song version of her best selling memoir- Just Kids.

The Poetess of Punk, Patti Smith has returned. You can download “April Fool” exclusively here. For now, check out Patti Smith’s interview and performances on CBS Sunday Morning. Rock on and enjoy!
