Sometimes (Lester Piggott)
James/Tim Booth

“♫ Sometimes, when I look in your eyes I can see your soul […] ♫”

By bringing tears to producer Brian Eno’s eyes, Sometimes is the song that convinced Eno to work with James on the seminal album Laid in 1993. Eno said Sometimes reminded him of his favorite Velvet Underground song—What Goes On.

Sometimes is subtitled Lester Piggott after a famous English jockey—because of the galloping backbeat simulating a horse on a race track.

This solo version—very ethereal by Tim Booth was recorded live at Glastonbury circa 2004. Listen as how stripped down to its core—Sometimes is an anthem for the ages.
